Short Selling, Borrowing and Lending in Capital Markets
International Securities Lending Association (ISLA) is a leading non-profit industry association, representing the common interests of securities lending and financing market participants across Europe, Middle East and Africa. Borsa Istanbul Review will publish a special issue by the end of 2023 in cooperation with the International Securities Lending Association (ISLA). Members of ISLA as well as interested academicians are encouraged to submit empirical papers with policy implications.

International Securities Lending Association (ISLA) is a leading non-profit industry association, representing the common interests of securities lending and financing market participants across Europe, Middle East and Africa. Its geographically diverse membership of over 190 firms includes institutional investors, asset managers, custodial banks, prime brokers, and service providers.
Borsa İstanbul Review (BIR) is a highly prestigious Q1 international academic journal included in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) with an impact factor of 4.288. BIR provides a scholarly platform for empirical finance articles focusing on capital markets and institutions, investor behavior, financial centers, market structures, and corporate finance.
Borsa Istanbul Review will publish a special issue by the end of 2023 in cooperation with the International Securities Lending Association (ISLA). Members of ISLA as well as interested academicians are encouraged to submit empirical papers with policy implications. Suggested topics include but not limited to the following:
- Securities borrowing in capital markets
- Securities lending in capital markets
- Short selling in capital markets
- Market liquidity and securities borrowing and lending
- Impact of the exchange traded fund (ETF) and purchasing programs on securities lending
- Securities loans, repurchase agreements and sell-buybacks
- Risks, regulations, and transparency of securities financing transactions and their effects and implications
- Comparative studies on securities borrowing and lending from geographically diverse regions
Manuscript submission information:
Submission deadline: Please submit completed papers to Professor Ali M. Kutan (the editor of Borsa İstanbul Review) at akutan@siue.edu by no later than 01 November, 2023. The special issue will include about 6-7 selected papers and the space is therefore limited. Hence, earlier submissions are welcome, and the submissions will be evaluated in the order they are received.
Review process and publication date: Submitted papers will first go through a desk review process by BIR editor and a special issue review committee. Selected papers will then be invited for a formal submission to the journal and undergo a review process through Elsevier online article submission system. Accepted papers will be published in a BIR- ISLA special issue by the end of 2023.
Virtual Seminar: The authors of accepted papers may be invited to an online seminar to present their findings.
Borsa İstanbul Review is an open access journal sponsored by Borsa İstanbul. All published articles are available to public without any access fee. There is no submission or publication fee either. All accepted papers require language editing, and this cost is covered by authors. Any questions may be directed to BIR editor through the e-mail provided above.
