7th QATEM Workshop and IATE PhD Workshop

28th-30th June 2023, Polytechnic University of Hauts de France (Valenciennes)

QATEM 2023 is the seventh event under a workshop series on Quantitative Approaches in Tourism Economics and Management. The workshop/conference is co-organized and supported by the Polytechnic University of Hauts de France (LARSH) and the International Association for Tourism Economics (IATE). It will be held in Valenciennes (France) on Thursday 29 and Friday 30th June 2023. By focusing on the theme of quantitative approaches in tourism economics and management, QATEM 2023 will provide an opportunity for gathering, analyzing, and debating state-of-the-art academic research in this recent field of economic and management sciences. The scientific committee would welcome submissions on both parametric and non-parametric approaches. Theoretical contributions are also encouraged. 

This edition will be characterized by a scientific collaboration with the International Association for Tourism Economics (IATE). A new edition of the IATE PhD workshop will be held before the QATEM workshop on Wednesday 28th June 2023 in order to assess the progress of PhD candidates in the field of tourism economics and management, with both theoretical and empirical focus. 

The IATE workshop takes place in a very friendly environment in which both academics and students give their advices and feed-back to PhD participants. In order to support personal and academic development of doctoral students and strengthen their capacity to participate to international academic life, training sessions will be delivered during the PhD workshop by world-class IATE tourism academics.

Among the PhD workshop papers accepted, the top paper will be selected to receive a PhD workshop best paper award with a certificate and a free registration to attend the 2024 IATE conference.

Note that these two events will take place the week before the Surrey 2023 conference.  If you come from far away, this is an opportunity to combine several conferences in Europe. 

Valenciennes is very well connected by rail and road to Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Lille and London. 

Deadlines:

January 31, 2023: Deadline for full papers or extended abstract submission to the QATEM workshop

February 15, 2023: Deadline for the submission to the PhD workshop (extended abstract, 5 pages, of an article or of a chapter of thesis or of the PhD project). 

March 15, 2023: Deadline for acceptance/rejection Notice

May 28, 2023: Deadline of registration and payment of registration fee

June 28-30, 2023: Workshops in Valenciennes.

Friday 30th June 2023 (2 p.m ? 10 p.m): Social event (more information forthcoming) and gala diner. 

Publication: Selected papers from papers presented at QATEM 2023 will be published as ?Special Focus? in Tourism Economics.

Authors are requested to submit an electronic copy of their anonymized manuscript (full paper or extended abstract) with pdf file by email. Submissions for the QATEM workshop should be addressed to peypoch@univ-perp.fr and sylvain.petit@uphf.fr.

Submissions for the IATE PhD workshop should be addressed to the Secretary-General of the IATE  mondher.sahli@vuw.ac.nz

Registration fees: The workshop fee includes welcome drink, conference registration, coffee-breaks, lunch official dinner and social event. 

Standard fee: 200 Euros

PhD student fee: 100 Euros
